Among Us: The Lockdown Hit of 2020

No mobile game had as many downloads in 2020 as Among Us, and thanks to COVID, it also brought us together a little, albeit in suspicion and rage.

Like others before it (do you remember Flappy Bird?) the game was available on the App Store long before it became a viral hit. So viral in fact that it became the most downloaded app in 2020 according to Apptopia. The mobile app intelligence service looked at the worldwide and US downloads for last year and put together top 10 lists, taking into account both Android and iOS data. The worldwide results put Among Us at the top spot with 264 million downloads, endless runner Subway Surfers follows with 227 million downloads, and in third place is the battle royale game Garena Free Fire, with 218 million downloads.

In the US, Among Us also reigned continued to reign supreme with 41 million downloads, Roblox on the other hand followed hot upon their heels with 40 million downloads. Although the social deduction game did well on the downloads front, they didn’t even feature in the Top Grossing Games, the honors going to PUBG with $1.1 billion worldwide and Roblox with $314 million in the US. Despite that, there is no doubt that Innersloth made good money with Among Us, considering that it’s crossplay friendly on Switch and PC as well.

A new map called The Airship is due to release in 2021, with lockdown still in place in varying degrees all across the world, there is still plenty of time to perfect your imposter game.

If you’re tired of the feuds, check out another 2020’s Game of the Year Genshin Impact. Read all about it here!
